Preparation

The decision of when to begin building wasn't mine. It was a gift of material that set things in motion.

In the city they decided to tear up and replace some perfectly good streets. Streets that were made of eight inch concrete. They made pile after pile of "urbanite" ... blocks of concrete destined for a landfill. I asked for permission to load some of it up and got a positive if somewhat puzzled response. Seven truck loads of free recycled concrete were harvested for the foundation of the cottage.

It doesn't look like much, but this is seven truck loads. Plenty for this project.

With the gift of the foundation material it was time to begin work on the cottage. The building site was cleared.

Another view, including some neighbors.

The urbanite chunks are sorted into groups.

No two sunsets are ever the same.
